The Instructors:

Jay Grimes danced professionally, ballet and Broadway, for 18 years, and never had an injury. This he attributes entirely to Pilates. He began his studies with Joe Pilates in the mid-sixties, and after Joe’s death continued with Joe’s wife, Clara, for another 10 years until her death. Jay began teaching in the original 8th Ave studio in New York, then moved with the studio to 56th Street, where he taught alongside, as well as studied with, Romana Kryzanowska and John Winters.

Over the years Jay’s clients have ranged from stars of Broadway and Hollywood, music and opera, to politicians, businessmen, housewives, and Olympic athletes. He currently provides ongoing training to instructors, conducting workshops and master classes around the world.

Dorothee VandeWalle is widely recognized as one of the leading teacher trainers in the world. Her soft-spoken, gentle demeanor belies a tough task master, whose challenging sessions combine fun with hard work. A former, professional dancer, she began studying the authentic method in 1985 with Romana Kryzanowska, soon becoming her assistant teacher trainer. In the 20 years she has taught, Dorothee has trained instructors at Pilates Certification Centers throughout the U.S. and abroad. Owner and master trainer of Metropolitan Pilates in Seattle, she has her own comprehensive certification program.

Kathryn Ross-Nash, certified in 1998 by Romana Kryzanowska, and trained by Edwina Fontaine and Kathy Grant, is a featured artist for the Gratz apparatus catalogue and Legacy Edition DVD’s. Kathryn has been blessed to work under 4 instructors who trained under Mr. Pilates himself. Recognized in the industry as one of the best instructors and practitioners, her desire is to pass her knowledge to others and have them share in the benefits of the method. She has a 2nd Dan Black Belt and is also Guild certified in Feldenkreis.

MeJo Wiggin began studying Pilates at the original
N.Y. Pilates Studio in 1990, where she met and began her extensive training with Master Teacher Romana Kryzanowska. In 2003, Romana selected MeJo to film her “Romana’s Pilates” video series, and certified her as a Teacher Trainer to help her teach the next generation of Pilates instructors. Since then, MeJo has given seminars in classical Pilates throughout the U.S. and Europe.

Peter Fiasca, founder of Classical Pilates, Inc., began studying Pilates in 1988 and was certified by Romana Kryzanowska in 1998. In addition to creating the well respected, award-winning Classical Pilates Technique series of six DVD titles, Peter was invited by Romana to appear in her first commercial DVD project. Over the years, Peter has continued to study with 1st generation master teachers Jay Grimes and Kathy Grant, as well as other notable instructors in the field. Peter is devoted to helping preserve the traditional technique and spirit of Mr. Pilates’ original method.
